In Parts I and II, I discussed why I chose to participate in this book challenge.  In Part III (this post), I’m going to let you guys in on how I’ve been doing since I set my goals, and set out on this journey.

Once I received this book in the mail and started reading it, there were so many reasons for me to get excited to get started.  My number one reason: Lifestyle.

I love the fact that this plan is realistic.  This is something my family and I can actually do.  Let me ask you something.  How many times have you promised yourself you were going to eat healthier, you lasted two days, then felt so guilty for giving up yet again?  You guys, that has happened to me so many different times and you know what?  I felt guilt for nothing!  Me trying to “eat healthy” actually ended up not being healthy for me at all.  I was either starving, miserable, or both.  The diets that I couldn’t stick with, that made me self loathe, were unrealistic.  I’ve realized that now.  And none of that is my fault.

Fact is, most diets are extremely narrow with regard to food choices and variety, and many even limit entire macronutrients altogether over the course of the entire program (think low-carb and low-fat diets). Three months with no carbs? No thanks. Such practices not only are entirely unnecessary, but make for a miserable, unsustainable experience.

Since I’ve started the Always Eat plan, I haven’t felt miserable once.  I haven’t sat there and questioned if my portion was too big and then obsess over it the rest of the night wondering “Did I eat too many strawberries earlier?  Was that too many carbs?”.  I don’t sweat it when I’m finally getting ready to relax in bed at night and I want a snack all to myself…even if it is 11:00 p.m.  (Any momma’s out there constantly sharing their snacks?).  And most importantly, I don’t hate myself when I eat a piece of pizza with my family or sneak some cookie dough with my daughter when we bake.  Always Eat gives clear, black-and-white instructions for weight loss and healthy lifestyle eating but has still allowed me to be…human.

No more food remorse is a huge deal for me.

What goes right along with creating a better lifestyle for myself?  Creating a better example for my children.  My kids see a happier mom. They see a mom trying new recipes and drinking more water and eating less junk and just feeling good about herself.  I have more energy.  My focus is better.  My body is changing.  And my self-accountability is better than it has been in a long time.  That, right there, is worth it’s weight in gold.

This hasn’t just been an experience for me.  It’s been an experience for our whole family.  Always Eat After 7 PM shares some amazing recipes that I probably would have never come up with myself.  And they are easily broken down into meal times and food groups.  No more guessing what the best protein is.  Or which fruits are actually super healthy for you.  Always Eat has left me with only answers.  No questions…or math to do.

And our meals have changed.  It’s no longer just bacon and eggs and biscuits for breakfast.  It’s Bacon and Caramelized Onion Egg Muffins.  (That’s an actual recipe from the book.).  And instead of boring turkey sandwiches for lunch, we have Chicken Hash with Kale and Butternut Squash.  (Also an actual recipe from the book.).  Not to mention, I do feel a little fancier when I make meals with fancy titles.

There is even a recipe in there to make your own beef jerky!  That is one of my favorite snacks.  And let’s not forget about desserts. Below I’ve added a picture of one of the recipes from the book.  Like I said, this plan allows you to be human.  Looks delicious, amirite?

Here’s the thing: When you start feeling better physically, your mental and emotional well being usually follow suit.  But in order to be physically healthy, you need to know your body.  You need to understand how it truly works.  And we need a meal plan that we can actually do.  Make no mistake, any lifestyle change will take commitment and hard work.  But Joel Marion’s Always Eat After 7PM program makes dieting easy and eliminates 90% of reasons for resistance. And you guys…there is SO much information in this book to consider.  I’m so glad I took the plunge with this challenge.  It’s done so much more for me (and my family) than I can really fully express.  (How do you measure the value of a happier, healthier life?).  Are you ready to give yourself another chance?

Something to think about.  XO
