FASHION/BEAUTY, FINDING MY FASHION

Affordable Style: Walmart Fashion Finds

I’m in wardrobe purgatory.  I know that sounds weird…but let me explain.  For those of you that don’t know, I just had a baby eight weeks ago and I’m in the “in between” stages of clothes.  That annoying place where your maternity clothes don’t fit anymore because they are too big, but your regular clothes don’t fit either because they are still too small.  That’s where I’m at.

Not only am I trying to make the transition back to pre-baby wardrobe, it’s also changing seasons.  Summer is quickly slipping away and Fall is upon us.  I’m super excited about this, but I’m confused because the weather is also in wardrobe purgatory.  One minute it’s in the low seventies and the next minute it’s in the high nineties.  (Mother Nature, I love ya honey…but you need to get it together.).  So, what do I even buy?  Hopefully I’m going to lose more of the baby weight, right?  Right!  But, when?  Will it fall off fast like it did the last two times?  Or will it take longer because I’m a little bit older now?  And when does southwest Texas even get a fall?  Do I need to buy sweaters?  Or should I just stick with t-shirts since it’s still so hot here?  And will I be able to fit into my winter stuff by the time winter gets here?

See?  Like I said…I don’t even know what to buy or what size to buy it in.

And if that’s not confusing enough, I’m also going through my whole “evolution”.  The bottom line to this is…my entire closet needs an extreme makeover.  Seriously, you guys.  I was going to go through and try to sell some stuff…but none of it would have been worth the effort it would have taken to sell it.  It’s that bad.  I’ve been wearing the same clothes for so long, I don’t even know what’s in style anymore.  And that’s what I’m working on.

But for right now, I just need clothes that fit.  Clothes that I don’t have to spend too much money on because, hopefully, they won’t fit me for very long and I’ll be back to my pre-pregnancy weight soon.

I’m looking for items that I can wear to pick my daughter up from her church class in.  And clothes I can wear to the grocery store, and the doctor’s office, and the post office.  Clothes I can be a comfortable mom in, but don’t make me look like I’ve lost the will to live.  (I’m all for sweatpants.  But if you wear the same pair for more than a few days, people start to wonder if you’re okay.).

So that’s what I was after this past week when I walked in Walmart.  Some clothes to get me through the next few months, on a budget.  Here’s my opinion about Walmart:  It’s hit-and-miss.  Sometimes I find all kinds of stuff that I love and I could spend an hour in there just browsing.  Other times, I leave empty handed because I didn’t find anything I couldn’t live without.  It really depends on what you are going in there for.  You want solid colored tank tops in pretty much any cut?  They got it.  You want something you can wear clubbing in Vegas?  Walmart may not be your best option.  But this particular week I was looking for everyday wear items and, overall, I left happy.  I purchased four shirts, a cardigan, and a two-piece set of jammies for just under $80.  I know these clothes will last for at least as long as I need them to, and probably much longer.  I also picked these items because I felt they could blend into a few different styles.

My very favorite piece I brought home was this one…

This was taken straight-up, no filter, in the dressing room.  (I got so excited about this one that I obviously had to put it on the gram.).  I grew up watching MTV and this shirt had such a sentimental value to me…just because of the logo…that I had to buy it.  I was wearing capri yoga pants and it honestly looked better with those than I thought it would.  But here is the look I actually had in mind for it…

This shirt just had such a vintage rock-n-roll vibe that I wanted to go all rockstar with it.  Here I’ve paired it with black skinny jeans and pair of black heeled booties.  Because even though I’m a mom, sometimes it’s nice to relive those days as an MTV rebel.

Next up is a shirt that I bought three of.  Well, the same shirt in three different colors.  I was excited about these because they were going to be perfect for every day and I knew I could create a variation of looks with a little switch of some accessories and shoes.  The material is soft and breathable and the V-neck gives it a little bit more of a dressier look.

The first color up is a faded black.  This could be dressed so many different ways.  The first day I wore it, I wore it to a play date with my daughter and our friends.  We were outside so I wanted to keep cool and I needed to wear it with shoes I could chase a toddler in.  Here’s what I came up with…

Khaki shorts and UGG slip-on’s.  It worked out great and I was comfortable and cool during our playground adventures.  (Sorry about my awful face expression.  Geez.  I look like a horrid person.  I promise I’m not.)

If you did want to dress this up a little, then all you would have to do is (get the wrinkles out of your played in shorts), slip on a pair of strappy wedges and some accessories.

Next up is the purple.  I chose to dress this one up a little bit like the MTV shirt.  I got this one in a small and so it is a slimmer fit.  The black and burnt orange shirts are medium.  Again, I paired this one with black skinny jeans and booties.  Add the right accessories and you’re ready for running errands or a casual date night with the hubs.

One negative thing about these shirts: they are not very concealing or slimming.  Just so you know, I’m totally sucking in my stomach in this picture…and you can still kinda see my muffin top.

The last color I bought in this shirt was the burnt orange.  This one was probably my favorite.  Actually, this whole get up was probably my favorite out of the last three.  I don’t know if it’s because it’s really the cutest, or if that I just get such a Fall vibe from it that it immediately makes me want to eat pumpkin spice everything.  Either way, I’m ready for Fall, and I love this burnt orange color.

Here I’m wearing it with denim skinny jeans and beige boots.  Honestly, I’m more excited about this one for when the weather gets a little bit cooler.  I think the fit will be more flattering (on me), and I’m anxious to throw a cardigan and scarf over it.  Gahhhh!!  I feel like I can smell the bonfires already!

Another item I purchased was a grey cardigan.  I feel like I don’t even need to explain this because cardigans are kinda like chameleons…they blend with everything.  You can dress them up.  You can dress them down.  You can wear them around the house or out to dinner.  I love cardigans and all of their versatile glory.  This one was on sale for $9, and I wasn’t about to pass it up.  I know I’ll get my money’s worth out of it.

I loved the material.  I loved how long it was.  I loved the buttons and the pockets.  This one was a great find.

The last thing I brought home (and maybe my very, very favorite item) was my leopard print pajama jams, ya’ll!!!

Softest, most comfortable material…maybe ever.  The stretch was a perfect fit, the pants were long and fitted, but the waist wasn’t too restricting.  And there was removable padding in the chest area.  Not mention that both of these pieces were TOTES ADORBS and together they cost under $20.  Snuggly, soft, cute, and affordable.  Exactly what I was looking for in a pair of jammies.  Nailed it.

Bargains make me happy.  I like looking put together without feeling like I have to break the bank to do it.  To me, it’s not necessarily about brand or the store it came from.  It’s about how it makes me feel, as woman, when I wear it.  Do I feel comfortable on the inside and out?  Do I feel confident?  Am I putting my best face forward and doing the best I can on this day?

I’m having an absolute blast trying to find my own style.  It’s like a stepping stone in the journey of finding myself.  And I don’t know if this sounds super basic or not (if I have to ask, it probably does), but who wouldn’t want to go play dress up, take selfies, and then come home and blog and talk about it with their friends?  Cause, I mean…I think that makes for a pretty great day.

I would love to hear your feedback!  What would you have taken home?  How would you dress up (or dress down) the faded black, purple, or burnt orange shirts?  What accessories do you think I should wear with them?  Let me know!  Leave me a comment below.  Also, don’t forget to hang out with me on Instagram and Pinterest!

    1. Thank you so much! I have no sense of style either so you are not alone! After 36 years, I’ve just now had the desire to learn more. I loved all of these items from Walmart and the prices were really unbeatable. I’m so happy you enjoyed this post. You just made my day. ❤️
